General English

CMLA runs a wide range of full and part time General English courses for people wanting to learn English as a foreign language.

Students can join a course on any Monday (not including holidays). A complete course takes 12 weeks. However, the period of your study is up to you.

Each day is split into three categories:

• Grammar & Vocabulary
• Reading & Listening
• Speaking & Writing

This is intended as a guide so that you can see that you are getting good coverage and that the teachers are giving a good balance of language input and skills practice. Students are reminded though that lessons are not mutually exclusive and that a reading lesson might have some language input and a language lesson will need reading or listening to provide a context etc.

Daytime English Courses

The English School offers two different daytime English group courses depending on how much you want to study:

Full time	21 hours per week
Part time	15 hours per week

Evening English Courses

The evening option is for people who are working during the day but would like to develop their English skills. There are 10 hours available to study in evening classes each week. You choose how much you want to study from 2 hours to the full 10.

Study English One-to-one

Studying English one to one is an effective way to improve your ability at an accelerated rate. You can combine this option with a General English Course so you can also benefit from studying in a class with other students.

Hours of this course are dependent on the students’ requirements.

Whatever your ability we have a level and a course that can help you progress and develop the English skills that you need for your future.

Saturday English Courses

Too busy to come to class in the week? Live outside Cardiff? Study once a week on Saturday morning for three hours.
